CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

IN A PARTICIPATORY PERFORMANCE PROJECT

"SUDDENLY THE FLOOR WAS NOT THERE”

OPEN WORKSHOP + PERFORMANCE PARTICIPATION

EN (for DE scroll down)

What is the project about?

The project explores the rescue mission that took place at the sight of the commercial building Rana Plaza on April 24th 2013 in Bangladesh. The infamous architectural incident, in which more then 1100 factory workers died and more then 3000 were injured, remains a symbol of ignorance, greed and exploitation of human labour, yet it shows the power of solidarity.

In this context the choreographer and performance artist Tomaz Simatovic in collaboration with INFLUX - Network for dance, theater and performanceis looking for 5 to 10 participants to join the project "Suddenly the floor was not there". The project is of a participatory nature, which means that we are inviting people (general public) to take part and engage actively in the development of the project as artistic research and performance.

Inspired by the element of participation, in which civilians helped the professional soldiers, and in reflection to the rescue mission, the artist is looking to develop a performative and participatory installation. The work will be presented in the frame of the performance "Suddenly the floor is not there", taking place this October at the tanz_house festival 2018.

How does it work?

In the frame of this project we will open the tanz_house studio for participation. The project will be conducted in two phases: workshop phase and performance in which the art work that will be developed in the workshop will be presented publically and performed in the frame of the performance "Suddenly the floor is not there". This call for participation is addressed to everyone who is interested to participate. No particular or artistic background is required, but simply a will or curiosity to be present and take part of the art work.

The workshop will be held in English. It is free of charge and open, which means that you can join us whenever you can and have time; your participation is not mandatory at all times, but you are free to participate as you can and as much as your life allows you. Below you can see dates the studio of tanz_house will be open for participation. Pick one date or more dates on which you can join us.

The workshop is meant as a space with the purpose to develop this particular and interdisciplinary artistic practice, engage in discourse and rehearsals. In the workshop we will work manually and physically with the used clothes that the spectators-participants of the participatory performance project "The Way You Touched Me Tonight" (2017) donated for humanitarian and artistic research. Should you feel inspired to donate clothes that you do not wear anymore for the same cause your gesture will be very appreciated.

We are kindly inviting you to participate in this research, and engage with this particular artistic pratice in the intersection between performance art and aktivism. We are inviting you to join the participatory artistic process that explores the link between solidarity, empathy, participation and performance art. We are inviting you to make a contribution on the artistic yet humanitarian level.

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

Eine performative und partizipatorische Installation

"SUDDENLY THE FLOOR WAS NOT THERE”
